Sustainable South Bronx

Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx) provides training for careers in green construction and maintenance. Participants learn about environmental justice; gain hard skills such as carpentry, utilities, building mechanics, landscaping, and energy auditing; and earn industry certifications that help them stand out in the job market.

Length: 14 weeks

Certifications: OSHA 10 General Industry, OSHA 30 Construction, 8hr Fall Prevention, 2hr Drug/Alcohol Awareness, Site Safety Training card, Construction Site Safety Flag person, DOB 4hr Supported Scaffold User, OSHA 16hr Confined Space, CPR and First Aid, HAZWOPER, Asbestos Handler, RBE WHALCI, Air Sealer, MFBO

Schedule: M-F 9-5

The Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx) program trains jobseekers in the green construction and maintenance fields, beautifying the South Bronx and improving energy efficiency throughout the borough. Graduates who complete the program gain 10 industry-recognized credentials and the skills and knowledge to succeed in a variety of green careers.

All jobseekers in the program are paid a weekly stipend of $50.

In addition, program participants receive the skills, training and education within the HOPEworks curriculum, including: digital literacy, resume writing, interviewing skills and more.
