Recipient of the Employer/Internship Recognition Award

Eastern Athletic Clubs was recommended to HOPE as a potential employer four years ago by one of HOPE’s Business Advisory Council Members. Since then, they have hired eight HOPE graduates.

Whenever a position opens up at EAC, they always look first to HOPE graduates. Because we prepare people to be industrious and productive employees, they know they will be getting the best person for the job.

HOPE graduates praise Eastern Athletics for the opportunities they provide and for giving them second chances in their lives. An added benefit is that all EAC employees have full access to the gym.

This has allowed them to improve their physical well-being at the same time that they are building self-confidence, knowing that they can support themselves and their families.

Shirley working at Eastern Athletic

For nearly 25 years, The HOPE Program has prepared thousands of hard-working individuals to enter the workforce, propelling themselves, their employers, and New York City toward higher levels of prosperity. Today, HOPE graduates are working in animal hospitals, banks, funeral parlors, accounting firms, grocery stores, day care centers, hair salons, hospitals, and publishing companies.

Why Hire a HOPE Graduate?

Many employers report that entry-level workers are unable to follow directions, work in teams, have poor reading and writing skills, or show up late and have poor attendance. At HOPE, we know the importance of these basic work readiness skills. We specialize in training individuals how to: be responsible employees; acquire and use information; problem-solve; self-manage; work effectively with others; use basic office equipment and come to work on time!

Furthermore, once you hire a HOPE graduate, we will be there to help you for as long as you like. We do this because we know that the cost of losing an employee and recruiting and training his/her replacement ranges from $3,500 - $25,000! So when you hire a HOPE graduate, you can be secure in knowing that we will provide a lifetime of support services. Finally, we will work with you to see if you are eligible for tax-credits when you hire a HOPE graduate.

How about Taking on a HOPE Intern?

Another way that HOPE students help strengthen our city's workforce is through our Internship Program. After spending a minimum of 240 hours in our work readiness training program, students are placed in unpaid internships with New York City employers - large and small - the list mirrors the diversity of all of our wonderful New York City businesses, government agencies, and nonprofits.

HOPE interns treat their internships as if they were real jobs. This means that they are punctual, on-time, show up eager to learn and with positive attitudes.
